Born in Jerusalem of Syrian parents, she received a bachelor's degree in English literature from Cairo University in Egypt and a master's degree in English drama and poetry from the University of Wales. Al-Saleh is a poet, editor, and translator.
In addition to her literary pursuits, she began to devote her time to painting, printmaking, and ceramics. She has made detailed studies of Arabic manuscripts and ceramics at the British Museum in London. She now lives and works in England and her artwork is found in several public and private collections throughout the Arab world.
