Albrecht was born in Kaufbeuren, Germany. She studied Art Education and Biology at the University of Bielefeld, followed by three years in Italy studying marble and bronze sculpture. Albrecht now lives and works in Herford, Germany. Since 1986, she has worked mainly in stone, with some large format works in the areas of "Art and Architecture" and "Art and Nature/Landscape". Over the years she has realized works in divergent art practices including different material compositions, photography, mixed media, and mail art projects. Recently, she realized works with sometimes unusual and seemingly contradicting material combinations like stone and felt. Albrecht has taught in the Department of Art at the University of Bielefeld since 1999, and has worked as a researcher in the IFF (Interdisciplinary Centre for Women's Studies). She initiated the Recycling Art Award in Herford in 1999 and it continues to be given every two years.
