Black, a Greek Cypriot, combines photographic portraiture, digital video, computer manipulated images, and sculptural forms into powerfully moving installations. The imagery is predominantly women and expresses cultural aspects of life in Cyprus. Portraits are often exhibited in frames hanging on walls, but Black also projects her video imagery onto unexpected surfaces such as embroidered fabric or a bed of salt. There is an assemblage of figures, symbols, and icons in each work as well as in the grouping and display of works for exhibition.
