Castillo is interested in confronting strong Mexican religious tradition and the body's independent existence; the body seen as a subversive element within society.

Since 1987 she has exhibited in Mexico, the USA, Germany, France, Japan, Chile, Australia, and Cuba.

Castillo studied art at the Kunstakademie, Stuttgart, Germany, has been a member of OMR Gallery in Mexico-City since 1987, and teaches art at the Centro Nacional de las Artes in Mexico-City.
