Christenson's work, which often combines the contrasting materials of clay and steel, explores the illusive area where image and process collide.

Decorative and ornamental conventions; common objects such as curtains, furniture, pillows, clothing, handbags, stacks of papers, vacation snapshots, and desk calendars; light shining through the petals of flowers in her garden; and architectural fragments are examples of the many and varied sources which inform her work.

Christenson teaches and coordinates the ceramics program at Washington State University in Pullman, Washington.
