Fabrikant, who now lives in Zürich, Switzerland, was born in Paris, France. Her childhood coincided historically with the time of the German occupation of France. Its experience was the façade of a seemingly salutary world behind which terror loomed. Her awareness of the difference between appearance and reality within an orderly, sophisticated life became the essence of her art.
"Her industrial landscapes, factories, and engineering constructions are rendered with puristic accuracy. But the key to her message lies in the use of color which fuses subtle beauty with supreme irony. In the discrepancy between formal precision and aesthetic fascination, distance and involvement, logic and horror, Janika Fabrikant's agrophobic machine environments convey the spellbound beauty of a world threatened by chemical pollution and radioactivity." --- Dr. Ute Ben Yosef, Art Historian
