Born in Germany, Femrite was introduced to art at an early age by her father, Johann Strater, a renowned artist of the Netherlands and Germany. In her father's studio, she practiced with different mediums and techniques before completing her art education at the Academy of Art in Saarbruecken, Germany.

Although Femrite enjoyed success in Germany with showings of her art in several galleries, her interest in the American legacy and Native American culture encouraged her to move to the United States in 1976. Settling in Oregon, she set her imagination and palatte to work.

Applying techniques garnered through the study of Flemish and other European masters, Femrite portrays the American landscape vibrantly through the interplay of light and shadow. The effects range from the colorfully reminiscent to the starkly dramatic.
