Hertzberg has been a professional painter/collagist for almost forty years. Her first studies were with figurative painter Ben Benn, and she later came to abstraction at the Art Students' League in New York with Vaclav Vytlacil, Will Barnett, and Morris Kantor. Hertzberg has had over twenty solo exhibitions and has also been accepted in many national juried group exhibitions. She enjoys working with various media, including oil, watercolor, pastel, and collage.

She is the recipient of numerous awards including: Greenblat Memorial Award, oils, N.A.W.A., 1983; Medal of Honor, watercolor, N.A.W.A., 1979; Grumbacher Award, oils, Painters and Sculptors Society, 1979; Irene Sickle Feist Award, National Academy, N.A.W.A., oils, 1977; Memorial Award, National Academy, N.A.W.A., oils, 1975; Monmouth College, Invitational Winner Awards, Cannes, France, 1969; Freylinghausen Award, New Jersey Water-color Society, 1968; and Mary S. Litt Award, American Water-color Society, 1966.

Hertzberg is listed in Who's Who in American Art and World's Who's Who of Women. Her selected reviews include: Newark Star Ledger, New Jersey, 1982; Newark News, New Jersey, 1968; and France-Amerique, New York, 1965.
