Larissa Hjorth was born in England. She earned a BA in Photography and Printmaking at The University of South Australia. Later she earned a Post Graduate Diploma in Women's Studies at The University of Adelaide, where she also studied Anthropology and Philosophy. Then Hjorth studied Computer Graphics at The University of South Australia. In 1995, she received her MFA in Sculpture from RMIT Melbourne, and she is currently studying for an MFA at the University of Melbourne.
She has been awarded Carclew Art Grants, 1992, '93, and '94; sponsored studio space at The Experimental Art Foundation, 1993; Department for the Arts grants, 1994 and '95; and Pat Corrigan Grants, 1993, '94, and '96. Hjorth has had three solo exhibitions: Idolscence, Union Gallery, The University of Adelaide, 1993; Enter Gesture (die-gestion), Hardlines at the X, Adelaide, 1994; and a dress, Sym Choon Gallery, Adelaide, 1995.
Her work has been in over 25 group exhibitions in Adelaide, including: Art Zone, The Experimental Foundation, Contemporary Art Centre, The Loft Gallery, Re[AD], and The Union Gallery. She was also involved in a collaboration, Looking at the Billboard, the Montserrat Gallery, New York, and the First Annual International Exhibition of Miniature Art, Stockholm, Sweden.
