Jamal was born in Beirut, Lebanon. She received a bachelor's degree in art from Beirut University College in 1984 and a master's degree in fine arts from California State University, Long Beach, in 1991.
For the past ten years Jamal has divided her time between California, England, and Lebanon. The subject matter of her art is the war-torn landscape of Lebanon, to which she is emotionally tied. She has received several awards for her art and her work is in a number of private collections internationally.
