Kleefeld received her BA from the University of California Los Angeles in 1985 and her Post Graduate Diploma of Art from the Byam Shaw School of Art, London in 1987. She has also studied at The Bruchion School, Los Angeles; Pratt Institute of Art and Design, New York; and Hampshire College, Amherst, Massachusetts. Her work has won numerous awards including: "Audrey Hope Shirk Memorial Award" and "Susan Kahn Award," 113th Annual Exhibition, National Association of Women Artists, NY, 2002; "Outstanding Painting Prize," CAA National Prize Show, The Cambridge Art Association. Cambridge, MA, 2002; "Juror's Award," Book Art Press, New Art International 2002, Juried International Fine Art Publication, Woodstock, NY, 2002; "Juror's Award," International Contemporary Painting, Erector Square Gallery, New Haven, CT, 1999; and "Best of Show," Silverhawk Fine Arts Internet Exhibition, Taos, NM, 1999.
