Katsuyo Maeda was born in Wakayama, Japan. She finished the entire program of the Design Department, Art Course at Seian Women's Junior College. In 1974, she became a member of "Sodeisha" and has thereafter exhibited at the Sodeisha exhibitions every year in both Tokyo and Kyoto.

Her selected solo exhibitions include: Gallery Imai, Osaka, 1974; and Gallery 16, Kyoto, 1972.

Her selected group exhibitions include: 25 Japanese Artists Special Exhibition, 1995; Toki Municipal 40th Anniversary Event -- The Wind of Faenza Exhibition, 1995; Medium Standing Artists Aiming for the 21st Century Exhibition, Kyotou-Shijyo Gallery, 1994; FAENZA International Ceramic Art Exhibition, Italy, 1975; and Abstract Section, Japan Ceramic Art Exhibition, 1973 and '71.
