Mayer describes herself as "a long-standing feminist artist particularly interested in collaborative, collective, political, and humorous art work."

Her work includes drawing, performance, installation, writing about art for a major newspaper, research in electrography, and applied conceptual art.

She was a founding member of "Polvo de Gallina Negra" which was one of the few feminist art groups in Mexico; and is currently part of the conceptual art space, Pinto Mi Raya with Victor Lerma.
