McGuire has always been fascinated by dolls, especially dolls that did not look like her. When she was a young girl, she had a black doll named "Chrissy".

She had insisted her mother purchase the black version of this particular doll because she thought white babies were ugly.

McGuire states, "In retrospect, I guess this says a lot about how I saw myself."
