Mesquita's works of art on paper are of small scale having an intimate appeal. They feature images which are personages of her own family members, nature, and ethnic icons that allude to a regional area in New Mexico.

She is an educator in the Community Colleges of Southern California and she reviews art for several newspapers including the L.A. Times, New York Times, Chicago Press, and La Opinion.
