Mitchell is a faculty member in Media Studies, Department of Communication, the New School, and Parsons School of Design, New York.

She is a multimedia producer and designer of commercial and educational programs and the recipient of grants from the NEA, NYSCA, NYCH, and private foundations in design advancement.

Mitchell has had photographic exhibitions in New York and abroad.
