Petrova was born in Sofia, Bulgaria. She graduated from the National Academy of Fine Arts in Sofia. Residencies include: Cite International des Arts, Paris, 1997; Chirpan, Bulgaria, 1994; Shalgotarian, Hungary, 1989; and Zigov Chark, Bulgaria, 1986. The tension between black and white in its literal and emotional sense has always been a major force in her work. Petrova investigates the world as an entity of opposites-- all of her works represent the dual nature of our inner world and of the world surrounding us.
