Diane Roberts was born in Bournemouth, Dorset, England. She was state educated and attended Bournemouth College of Art and Design during the 1970's.

Roberts describes herself as a feminist, teaches art to school children, and gave birth to her first child in March, 1996.

While anticipating the birth of her child, Roberts wrote, "As I feel my baby kicking inside of me, I think of women's creative experiences - outside of human understanding." Her painting is her response - to her spiritual, emotional, and Christian development.
