Sargent graduated from Arizona State University in Tempe, with a BFA in Painting and Drawing. Sargent is best known throughout Central Florida for her commissioned pet portraits. After years of working in oil, watercolor, and traditional black pen and ink, she discovered pen and colored inks to be the medium most appropriate for her portraits. It allows her to exert total control over the fine details of her subject right down to each wisker and enables her to capture and emphasize each individual pet's personality.
Not limited to the domestic scene, Sargent also draws wildlife expressing her excitement about wild animals and their fiery spirits. She uses vivid colors that play with and against each other in a manner that is by no means tame. Her Colorful Wildlife Series includes gorillas, lions, and zebras, all with their own color combinations and moods, from amusing to pensive. The eyes of her endangered species are penetrating and Sargent's emotion, sensitivity, and tenderness toward her subjects hold the viewer's attention once the colors have caught the eye.
