Shenal received her BFA in Studio Art (Photography and Cinema) from Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio and her MFA in Studio Art (Photography) from Arizona State University, Tempe. Her work is largely autobiographical and references mining in an Appalachian coal camp. She is currently Adjunct Faculty at Mesa Community College in Arizona and Artist-in-Residence at the Oregon College of Art and Craft in Portland, Oregon.
