The World's Women On-Line!

Steenmans was born in Mechelen, Belgium. She studied at the "Karel de Grote Hogeschool voor schone kunsten", Highschool for Art in Antwerp, specializing in painting. In 1982 she moved to Puimichel in the south-east of France. Over a period of years she has experimented with a number of techniques and many different materials -- her favorites being mixed media, watercolor, and oil painting. She has a skillful hand and depicts images with photographic accuracy.

Her deep love of nature explains why animals and often insects occur in many of her paintings. She creates strange worlds where frogs can be presented as observers, lifelike animals can exist amidst unreal scenery, and the viewer's eye can be deceived by trompe-l'oeil. One of her ambitions is to illustrate books about plants and animals with her paintings from nature.

She has shown her work in solo or group exhibitions in France (Cannes, Lurs, Paris, Peyruis, Volonne), Belgium (Brugge, Mechelen, Neufehateau, Ostend), Switzerland (Luzern), and Montecarlo (Monaco).
