|Susanne G. Stephenson||
Title: Fall Light
Medium: Terra cotta, ceramic
Size: 20" x 12" x 10"
Susanne Stephenson received her BFA from Carnegie-Melon University, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and her MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. She also did foreign study in Japan, Spain, and Peru. Currently, she is Professor Emeritus at Eastern Michigan University.
For the past several years, the focus of her work has been abstracting landscapes in low fire, terra cotta clay. Rather than recording the geography of a scene, she captures the mood or visual energy of nature at the particular time. The physical gesture of the form in conjunction with the freely applied thick colored slips are the means of expression in her ceramic work.
Stephenson has an extensive exhibition history of national and international, solo and group exhibitions; is the recipient of numerous awards, grants, and fellowships; and is represented in galleries and museums including the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, England.
