Suarez was born and raised in Hamburg, Germany and in her early adulthood traveled to Mexico. She fell in love with Mexico and settled there in the beautiful mountain community of San Cristobal de las Casas. Suarez was educated as a psychologist in Germany, and it has only been since moving to Mexico that she began to paint. Since 1980, she has developed a highly recognizable, personal style in watercolor, intaglio, and mixed media, without formal education. Her paintings reflect the bold colors of the Mexican landscape and the vibrant culture of her adopted homeland, while expressing her belief in love, peace, friendship, and fellowship.
Her selected exhibitions include: La Galeria, Chiapas, Mexico, 1986-'94; J-1 Galleries, Tokyo, Japan, 1992; Three Rooms Up, Edina, Minnesota, 1986-'92; Tamarack House Gallery, Stillwater, Minnesota, 1992; Taller del Pensativo, Antiqua, Guatemala, 1989; Laguna Gloria, Austin, Texas, 1987-89; Galeria Akil, Merida, Mexico, 1987; El Tumi, Zurich, Switzerland, 1985; Galeria el Recoveco, Mexico City, Mexico, 1983; Casa de la Cultura, Chiapas, Mexico, 1982; and Polyforum Cultural Siquieros, Mexico City, Mexico, 1981.
