Tang's hometown is Beijing, China and she currently lives in Dekalb, Illinois. She received her BFA in Scenic / Lighting Design from China Central Academy of Drama; her MA in Studio Art from Northern Illinois University; and her MFA in Scenic Design from Northern Illinois University.

She has illustrated a number of books, and her oil paintings have been in many publications in China. Her work is included in the Permanent Collection of the China Fine Art Museum.
