Julia Townsend received her BA in Art History from Vassar College, Poughkeepsie, New York and her MFA in Painting and Mixed Media from the University of Delaware, Newark, Delaware. She studied one semester in Madrid, Spain and summer sessions at: the Museum School - Boston Museum of Fine Arts, Massachussets; Rhode Island School of Design, Providence; and Berliner Sommerakademie with Jan Henderikse, Berlin, Germany. Townsend creates surreal art for a nuclear age. Her work is "...colorful and up-to-date...the colors of Post-Pop." --Brigitte Wernedurg in Die Tageszeitung, November 7, 1992 (Germany).
