Zhou was born in Cixi, Zhejiang Province, P.R. China. She graduated from the Department of Fine Arts at Nanjing Academy of Fine Arts. A Senior Master of Fine Arts and Crafts, Zhou is a member of the Chinese National Association of Artists and Council Member of Suzhou Association of Artists.
In 1982, Zhou had her first solo exhibition of oil paintings in Suzhou and Nanjing, and she won the Gold Cup prize at the National Fine Arts Exhibition for her double-sided embroidery, Gold Fish. In 1984, her oil-painting, Waiting For The Bus, was included in the Sixth National Painting Exhibition, and Gold Fish was awarded the Gold Medal at the Boznan International Art Fair in Poland. In 1989, her drawing, My Family Dog, was included in the Seventh National Painting Exhibition, and her double-sided embroidery, Night Scene and a White Egret, won the Gold Medal at the Beijing Art Fair. She had her second solo exhibition of oil paintings in 1991.
